Safeway Flyer – Safeway (also known as Canadian Safeway) is a Canadian supermarket chain of 183 full service supermarket stores in western Canada. It began as a subsidiary of Safeway Inc. in the USA. It was sold to a division of Canada’s second supermarket chain Sobeys (Empire Company) in 2013. As a result, it is now independent from the American department. Safeway Inc. established Canada business as Canada Safeway Limited in nine stores in 1929. In 1935 I bought 179 Canadian Piggly Wiggly stores. In 1969, Safeway entered the Toronto market by opening a new store, not by acquisition. The company ultimately failed in the intensity of competition in this market.
